Itinerary

2 days · Istanbul ✈ Cappadocia (1 night) ✈ Izmir ✈ Istanbul

  1. Day 1Red Tour in Cappadocia, evening flight to İzmirDevrent Valley · Paşabağ (Monks Valley) · Avanos pottery workshop
A long first day: your driver is in the Istanbul hotel lobby at 05:00 for the airport run and the early flight to Cappadocia. The shared Red Tour starts at the arrivals hall and covers Devrent Valley, Paşabağ, Avanos and Zelve, with pottery and carpet workshops along the route. When the sightseeing ends, you transfer to the airport for an evening flight west to İzmir, and a driver takes you on to your hotel in the Kuşadası area for the night. Keep luggage light, as you carry it through two flights today.
    1. Istanbul hotel pickup

      05:00

Transfer from your hotel lobby to the airport for the morning flight.

    2. Istanbul to Cappadocia flight

Economy flight landing at Kayseri or Nevşehir, timed for the group that meets arrivals around 08:00.

    3. Devrent Valley

      Time here: about 20 min

Rock columns eroded into animal shapes; the guide points out the camel. A quick stop without any climbing.

    4. Paşabağ (Monks Valley)

      Time here: about 45 min

Twin- and triple-capped chimneys where Christian hermits carved cells, including a chapel associated with St Simeon.

    5. Avanos pottery workshop

      Time here: 30–45 min

See the kick wheel in action with local red clay and look round the painted ceramics. No obligation to buy.

    6. Buffet lunch in Avanos

Included open buffet; drinks are extra.

    7. Carpet Weaving Education Center (about 30–45 min)

Learn to tell a wool carpet from silk and see natural dye colors made from roots and leaves. No obligation to buy.

    8. Zelve Open-Air Museum

      Time here: about 1 hr

Village life carved into three valleys, abandoned in the 1950s because of rockfalls; walking paths climb in places.

    9. Evening flight to İzmir

Transfer to Cappadocia airport, then an economy flight to İzmir Adnan Menderes, where a driver meets you for the ride of about an hour to Kuşadası.

  2. Day 2Ephesus Group Tour and Evening Flight to IstanbulEphesus · Carpet Weaving Education Center (about 30–45 min) · House of the Virgin Mary
After yesterday's Red Tour and evening flight to the coast, today is Ephesus. You are picked up from your hotel in Kuşadası and join the shared group tour with a licensed guide; tickets for Ephesus and the House of the Virgin Mary and lunch in Selçuk are included. Besides the ancient city, the group visits a carpet weaving center, the House of the Virgin Mary and the Temple of Artemis. At the end of the tour you are driven to İzmir Airport for the evening flight to Istanbul.
    1. Hotel pickup in Kuşadası

Check out and bring your luggage; the day ends at the airport, not back at the hotel.

    2. Ephesus

      Time here: about 2 hours

The Library of Celsus once held around 12,000 scrolls, and copies of four statues representing Wisdom, Knowledge, Intelligence and Virtue stand in its facade niches. The group then continues to the Great Theatre.

    3. Lunch in Selçuk

A group lunch at a local restaurant in Selçuk.

    4. Carpet Weaving Education Center (about 30–45 min)

A short tour of the looms, with an explanation of wool, cotton and silk carpets. No obligation to buy.

    5. House of the Virgin Mary

Tradition holds that the apostle John brought Mary to Ephesus and that she spent her last years in this house on the hill.

    6. Temple of Artemis

A brief stop by the marsh where one of the Seven Wonders once stood.

    7. Transfer to İzmir Airport

Before you go

  • Domestic flights are economy class. Your baggage allowance follows the ticket fare, and we confirm it with your tickets.
  • Travel with the passport you booked with: airlines check the name on the ticket against it.
  • Wear comfortable walking shoes: the valleys and rock-cut sites have uneven ground and steps.
  • Bring a hat and sunscreen in summer and a warm layer in spring, autumn and winter: mornings in Cappadocia are cool.
  • Vegetarian, vegan or other dietary needs at lunch: tell us when you book and we let the restaurant know.
  • Mobility needs or travelling with small children? Tell us before you book, and we tell you honestly which parts of the day suit you.
  • We send your final programme, hotel names and pickup times before departure, and you can reach us on WhatsApp during the trip.

For these, a date change 14–20 days before departure costs €50 per booking; under 14 days it depends on availability, and any airline or hotel change fees are charged at cost. Name changes (passing your booking to someone else at least 7 days before departure) are free except for any airline name-change fee, charged at cost.
  • If TurkeyVia cancels, including because the minimum group size is not met, you can choose a full refund or an alternative.

If we can’t book your flights or hotel for your dates, that counts as our cancellation: a full refund to your card within 14 days, or another date if you prefer.
