Itinerary

Your shared group Red Tour starts with hotel pickup between 09:30 and 10:20, depending on whether you stay in Göreme, Uçhisar, Ürgüp, Avanos or Nevşehir; we send the exact time the day before. The day covers northern Cappadocia: rock shapes at Devrent, the chimney-top hermitages of Paşabağ, the potters of Avanos and the abandoned cave village of Zelve. Expect about 8 hours out and roughly 2.5 km of walking on uneven, partly cobbled ground. Two workshop stops are part of the program, and there is no obligation to buy. The Red Tour does not include Göreme Open-Air Museum.
  1. Devrent Valley (Imagination Valley)

    Time here: about 20 min

A short photo stop among pink-gray rock cones with no caves or churches; the game here is spotting shapes, and the camel rock is the one everyone finds first.

  2. Paşabağ (Monks Valley)

    Time here: about 45 min

Fairy chimneys here split into two or three stone caps. One of them holds a small chapel and cell used by hermits honoring St Simeon the Stylite.

Tip: Paşabağ and Zelve share one ticket, which is included.

  3. Avanos pottery workshop

    Time here: about 45 min

A potter throws a pot on a foot-powered kick wheel using red clay from the Kızılırmak, the river that runs through Avanos. Finished pieces are on sale, with no obligation to buy.

  4. Open buffet lunch in Avanos

Lunch is a buffet at a restaurant in Avanos; drinks are not included.

  5. Carpet Weaving Education Center (about 30–45 min)

Watch weavers tie knots by hand, see silk unwound from cocoons and learn how plant dyes produce the colors, over a glass of Turkish tea; no obligation to buy.

  6. Zelve Open-Air Museum

    Time here: about 1 hour

Three valleys of cave homes, chapels and a small mosque, lived in until the 1950s, when rockfall danger led the state to move residents to nearby Aktepe (New Zelve).

Tip: Wear shoes with grip; some paths are steep and loose.

Air-conditioned vehicle shared with the group; hotel pickup and drop-off

Frequently asked questions

What time is pickup for the Cappadocia Red Tour?

Pickup runs from 09:30 to 10:20, depending on your hotel's area: Göreme, Uçhisar, Ürgüp, Avanos or Nevşehir. We message you the exact time on the day before, so please give us a phone or WhatsApp number when booking.

Does the Red Tour go inside Göreme Open-Air Museum?

No. The Red Tour covers Devrent, Paşabağ, Avanos and Zelve. Göreme Open-Air Museum, with its frescoed rock-cut churches, is not on this route; Zelve shows you a lived-in cave village instead.

Is the Red Tour walking manageable for older travelers?

Plan on about 2.5 km in total, spread over the day, on uneven and partly cobbled paths. Zelve has the steepest sections, and you can skip the climbs into cave rooms and wait on level ground.

Which shopping stops are on the shared Red Tour?

Two: the Avanos pottery workshop and the Carpet Weaving Education Center, each about 30–45 minutes. They show local crafts, there is no obligation to buy, and the guide may shorten them if the day runs late.

Can the Red Tour lunch cater for vegetarians?

Lunch is an open buffet in Avanos that usually includes vegetarian dishes. If you have an allergy or a strict diet, tell us when booking so the restaurant can be informed in advance.

Is a hot-air balloon flight part of the Red Tour?

No. Balloon flights are not included in the Red Tour, and TurkeyVia does not sell them.

Red, Green or South: which Cappadocia tour should I choose?

Choose Red for fairy chimneys and the Zelve cave village in the north, Green for Ihlara Valley and Kaymaklı Underground City in the south-west, and South for old Çavuşin and Özkonak Underground City. With two days, the 2-Day Red & South tour combines two routes.

How do I book and pay for the Cappadocia Red Tour?

Reserve now, pay in cash on the day (euros or US dollars) — no deposit and no card needed. Tell us your hotel and a WhatsApp number; pickup is between 09:30 and 10:20, depending on your hotel's area, and we send the exact time the day before your tour.

What is the cancellation policy for the Cappadocia Red Tour?

Free cancellation up to 72 hours. 72 hours or more: Full refund. 24–72 hours: 50% of the tour price is refunded. Under 24 hours or no-show: No refund. Full terms: cancellation policy.
