Included transfers are the morning ride from your Istanbul hotel to the airport and the airport transfers in Cappadocia. The evening ride from the Istanbul airport back to your hotel is not included; you can add one from our private airport transfers. The group carries up to 12 people (our tour data).
Which airport, and what about luggage?
You fly into Kayseri or Nevşehir, depending on the ticket, and you only need a small day bag. You return to Istanbul the same evening, so large suitcases stay at your Istanbul hotel. Flights are economy class, and the checked-bag allowance follows the ticket fare; we confirm it with your tickets.
From the "Good to know" section of the tour page:
- Travel with the passport you booked with: airlines check the name on the ticket against it.
- Wear comfortable walking shoes: the valleys and rock-cut sites have uneven ground and steps.
- Bring a hat and sunscreen in summer and a warm layer in spring, autumn and winter: mornings in Cappadocia are cool.
What do you see and what do you miss?
You see the Red Tour route: Devrent, Paşabağ, Avanos and Zelve. You miss Göreme Open-Air Museum and any evening in Cappadocia. Walking comes to about 2.5 km on uneven ground (our itinerary).
The Zelve–Paşabağ entrance is one ticket and is included. The official foreign-visitor price is €12 (Ministry of Culture and Tourism DÖSİMM tariff, checked 29 October 2026). The pottery workshop and the carpet centre are part of the group programme, about 30–45 minutes each, with no obligation to buy.
What this trip does not include:
- Göreme Open-Air Museum. It is not on the Red route.
- A hot-air balloon flight. Balloon flights are not part of this day trip, and we do not sell them.
- An evening or a night in Cappadocia. The group transfer takes you to the airport in the late afternoon.
- Dinner and drinks with meals.
Can I use my own flights?
Yes. Remove the domestic flights option when you book, and we meet you at the Cappadocia airport. The meeting time is confirmed with your booking. The group programme works with flights landing around 08:00 and leaving around 20:00, so other times may mean some waiting.
If you are unsure whether your flight times fit, send them to us on WhatsApp before you buy tickets. For your own pace and your own guide and vehicle, there is also a private Cappadocia day tour from Istanbul by plane.
What if the flight is delayed?
Message us on WhatsApp and we will check what can be done. We cannot promise an outcome in advance for a delayed or missed flight, because it depends on the airline and the airport.
The same-day return is the main weakness of this format. Do not book an onward flight out of Istanbul on the same night.
How do you pay and what are the cancellation terms?
You reserve with a 40% deposit by card (at least the cost of the flights) and pay the balance on arrival. If you pay the balance in cash, you get 5% off the total.
Cancellation for a day trip by plane follows this schedule (our cancellation policy):
| When you cancel | What is charged |
|---|---|
| 91 days or more | The 25% administrative fee is charged. |
| 61–90 days | 55% of the total is charged (30% + the 25% administrative fee). |
| 31–60 days | 65% of the total is charged (40% + the 25% administrative fee). |
| 16–30 days | 95% of the total is charged (70% + the 25% administrative fee). |
| 15 days or less or no-show | 100% of the total is charged. |
Date changes are free at least 21 days before departure, subject to availability. From 14 to 20 days before, a date change has a fixed fee per booking, listed on the cancellation page. Under 14 days it depends on availability, and any airline change fees are charged at cost. The full terms are on our cancellation page. Because of the flights, this is a less flexible product than a Cappadocia day tour from a local hotel.
When is a 2-day or 3-day trip better?
Choose two days if you can spare them: you get the same early start, then a cave-hotel night and a second tour. The 2-day Cappadocia tour from Istanbul does the Red route on day 1 and the Green route on day 2 (Kaymaklı Underground City, the Ihlara Valley walk and Selime), with the flight back around 20:00.
| 1-day trip by plane | 2-day trip from Istanbul | |
|---|---|---|
| Start | 05:00 lobby pickup, land about 08:00 | Same early transfer, land about 08:00 |
| Night in Cappadocia | No | One night in a cave hotel, with breakfast |
| Guided tours | Red route | Red route, then Green route |
| Walking | About 2.5 km | About 2.5 km, then a 3.5–4 km riverside walk |
| Return | Evening flight the same day, about 20:00 | Evening flight on day 2, about 20:00 |
| Best for | One free day | A calmer, fuller visit |

With three days, the 3-day Cappadocia tour from Istanbul adds a second hotel night. All our Istanbul–Cappadocia trips are compared on the Istanbul to Cappadocia tours page. To compare flying with the overnight bus, read our guide to flying or taking the bus from Istanbul to Cappadocia.
So, is it worth it?
Yes, if the alternative is not seeing Cappadocia at all. You see fairy chimneys at Devrent and Paşabağ and the cave village at Zelve with a licensed guide and lunch included, and you are back in Istanbul the same night.
Skip the day trip if you dislike very early starts, have an onward flight the same night, or want Göreme Open-Air Museum, a balloon flight or an evening in Cappadocia. Those need at least one night there.
