How far is each airport from Göreme?

Nevşehir Kapadokya Airport (NAV) is the closer one: roughly 41 km to Göreme, about 39 minutes. Kayseri Erkilet Airport (ASR) is about 78 km away, around 68 minutes. These are routing-software estimates for a car on the open road, so add a margin.

AirportDistance to GöremeDrive timeOptions at the airport
Nevşehir Kapadokya (NAV)about 41 kmabout 39 minPrivate transfer, city shuttle timed to flights, taxi, rental car
Kayseri Erkilet (ASR)about 78 kmabout 68 minPrivate transfer, taxi, rental car; city bus to Kayseri only

The same routing gives times to the other towns where our day tours collect:

Avanos35 km, 40 min68 km, 61 min
Ürgüp49 km, 43 min70 km, 60 min
Nevşehir city centre29 km, 27 min89 km, 74 min

Distances and times come from the OSRM routing service on OpenStreetMap data, checked on 1 October 2026, using airport coordinates from DHMİ and town coordinates from Wikipedia. Our own transfer page quotes 45–70 minutes for the two airports together, which fits.

Which airport should I fly into?

Choose the airport that has the flight you want; the drive then follows. NAV saves about half an hour on the road to Göreme. ASR is a larger airport: DHMİ lists a 51,000 m² terminal at Kayseri against 3,500 m² at Nevşehir Kapadokya.

On routes, we could confirm one thing from an airline page: Pegasus lists direct flights to Kayseri from Istanbul and İzmir (page fetched 1 October 2026). We could not fetch an airline page for Nevşehir Kapadokya, and DHMİ does not list airlines, so check your airline's route list for both airports before buying.

What are my options from the airport to Göreme?

You have five realistic options: a private transfer, a shared shuttle, a taxi, a rental car, or public transport via the nearest city. Which fits depends on your landing time, luggage and budget.

Private transfer

A private transfer takes your party door to hotel with no stops for other passengers. We arrange transfers from both Kayseri and Nevşehir airports; the price is confirmed in writing before you travel. Send your airport, flight number, landing time, number of bags, passenger count and hotel name through our airport transfers page and we quote it. It is a private vehicle for your party, not a shared seat.

Shared shuttle

At Nevşehir Kapadokya, the airport authority (DHMİ) lists a city shuttle run by a local operator, with times arranged around scheduled flights. A travel-information site (AirportNavi, 2026) adds that transfers to Göreme, Ürgüp and Avanos need a reservation while the city-centre service does not. We do not run a shared shuttle ourselves.

At Kayseri, we found no published shuttle schedule from a neutral source. If you are offered a shared seat to Göreme, ask before you book: does it wait for delayed flights, does it drop at your hotel or a central stop, and how many other stops come first?

Taxi

DHMİ lists a taxi cooperative at Nevşehir Kapadokya, and Pegasus says taxis run around the clock at Kayseri Erkilet. A taxi gives flexibility if your landing time changes, but both runs are long. Agree the fare or confirm the meter before you set off, and have your hotel name saved in Turkish or on a map.

Rental car

DHMİ lists four rental brands at Nevşehir Kapadokya (Enterprise, Avis, Garenta and ADD Car), and Pegasus says car rental is available at Kayseri Erkilet. A car suits you if you plan to stay several days and visit villages by yourself. Ask whether a one-way return at the other airport carries a fee, and check parking at your hotel.

Public transport

There is no direct public bus from either airport to Göreme that we could verify. At Kayseri, Pegasus lists city lines 100, 101 and 271 into the city centre in about 20 minutes. A travel site updated on 4 June 2026 reports that the Havaş airport bus has been temporarily suspended. From Kayseri city you would still need an intercity bus towards Nevşehir and a local connection to Göreme. We found no published timetable for those legs, so we do not recommend this route with luggage or a tight arrival.

At Nevşehir Kapadokya, DHMİ's transport page lists the shuttle, taxis and rental cars, and does not list a public bus or Havaş.

What should I send when I book a transfer?

Send the same details to any provider, ours included, so the quote and the pickup are right the first time:

  • the airport (NAV or ASR) and your flight number and landing time;
  • the town and hotel name, with the address if the property is hard to find;
  • the number of passengers and the number of bags, plus child seats or mobility needs;
  • a WhatsApp number that works on arrival.

Ask what happens if the flight is late and whether the driver waits. That matters most at Kayseri, where the drive after landing is the longest.

How much time should I allow between landing and the hotel?

Add the drive to the time you need to leave the airport, then add a margin. At Nevşehir Kapadokya, a 39-minute drive after a landing at 18:00 could still mean arriving after 19:30 once bags are collected. At Kayseri, the same landing with a 68-minute drive points to about 20:00 or later. These are illustrations, not promises, and traffic or weather can add time.

Choose your hotel town with the next morning in mind. Göreme, Uçhisar, Ürgüp and Avanos are all inside our day-tour pickup area, and the drive from the airport differs by a few minutes between them, as the second table shows.

What if I land late or fly in on a tour day?

Do not plan to land and tour on the same morning. Our Red, South and Green day tours pick up from your hotel between 09:30 and 10:20, depending on the area, and we send the exact time the day before. From ASR, a 68-minute drive after landing and baggage is a real risk. As an illustration only: landing at 21:00, collecting bags and driving 68 minutes puts you at your hotel close to 23:00.

Book the transfer for the evening before your first tour. That is the plan our airport arrival guide for day tours is built on; this article covers the airport-to-hotel leg, that one covers joining the tour. Same-day booking stays open until 07:30, and day tours are paid in cash on the day.

See Cappadocia tours from Kayseri and Nevşehir airport for tours that fit an air arrival, or compare the Red tour and the South tour. If you are unsure how many days to plan, read how many days in Cappadocia and which Cappadocia tour on which day.
